Balsa Core Product Range

Balsa Core Flexible

Balsa Core Flexible

One side of the Balsa Core Flexible panel features a fibreglass fabric scrim (Tri-Scrim) while the other side features razor thin cuts lengthway and widthway to create small blocks. This allows the panel to contour around curved surfaces and provide the ultimate flexible panel.

The Tri-Scrim has fibres oriented in 3 directions, 0°, +45° and -45° which increases the tear resistance of the scrim during material handling. The New Tri-Scrim allows a larger bonding area between the core and the GRP laminate. This increase in bonding area results in excellent skin-to-core adhesion which is necessary to provide high quality sandwich products, tests have shown a 10% increase in bond strength when compared to standard scrim systems and due to the lower resin pick-up creates a stronger, lighter moulding.

Balsa Core Rigid

Balsa Core Rigid

Balsa Core Rigid benefits from all the natural properties of Balsa including low weight, high compressive strength, high shear strength without cuts or scrim attached. This natural material is also buoyant and benefits from high thermal and sound insulation properties. Balsa Core Rigid is suitable in instances where the Balsa is be used on flat surfaces or where the Balsa is used as a core faced both sides with plywood, GRP or aluminium to create flat, stiff panels for vehicle bodies, construction panels etc.

Balsa Core Drilled & Grooved

Balsa Core Drilled & Grooved

Drilled holes and grooves in the balsa panel allows air to escape from behind the core material. Once the air is removed, the holes fill with resin and the top and bottom panel skins come into perfect contact with the Balsa Core to achieve the highest bond strength. Drilled and grooved balsa panels are generally used with vacuum bagging, resin transfer moulding and infusion systems.

All Balsa Core comes as standard with a natural finish. Resin coating (primed) is also available for all products.
